He was educated at Scotch College, Tasmania, Australia.1 He was a cadet journalist between 1938 and 1939.1 He gained the rank of officer in the 2/8 Field Regiment, Australian Imperial Forces.1 He fought in the Second World War between 1939 and 1945, in the Middle East and Borneo.1 He was a farmer and grazier between 1945 and 1974.3 He held the position of Chief of the Highland Clan MacNeacail from in 1988.1 He was recognised by Lord Lyon King of Arms, and matriculated his arms at the Lyons Court on 8 April 1999.1 He lived in 2003 at Scorrybreac Cottage, Ballina, New South Wales, AustraliaG.1
