     Alexander Mackenzie of Coul was born illegitimately.1,2 He was the son of Sir Colin Mackenzie, 11th of Kintail and Mary Mackenzie.1,2 He married, firstly, Annabella Mackenzie, daughter of Murdoch Mackenzie of Fairburn.1 He married, secondly, Christian Munro, daughter of Hector Munro of Assynt, in 1617.1 He died in March 1650.1
     His father made Coul over to him.1 On 10 March 1582 he had sasine of Applecross.1
