Sir Alexander Charles Ramsay-Gibson-Maitland, 3rd Bt.1 
He was given the name of Alexander Charles Maitland at birth.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Edinburgh.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the Stirlingshire Militia.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Maitland, of Clifton, Midlothian [U.K., 1818] on 7 February 1848.1 In 1856 his name was legally changed to Alexander Charles Ramsay-Gibson-Maitland on inheriting Barnton and Sauchie.1
