     John Scott, 8th of Gala was born in 1790.1 He was the son of Colonel Hugh Scott, 7th of Gala and Isabella Monro.2 He married Magdalen Hope, daughter of Sir Archibald Hope of Craighall, 9th Bt. and Elizabeth Patoun, on 20 April 1820.1 He died on 9 August 1840.1
     From 20 April 1820, his married name became Hope.

     From 20 April 1820, her married name became Scott.

     Hugh Scott, 9th of Gala was born on 9 December 1822.1 He was the son of John Scott, 8th of Gala and Magdalen Hope.2 He married Elizabeth Isabella Johnstone-Gordon, daughter of Captain Charles Kinnaird Johnstone-Gordon and Elizabeth Gordon, on 8 September 1857.1 He died on 19 December 1877 at age 55 at FranceG.1
     He gained the rank of Major in the Dumfries, Roxburgh and Selkirk Militia.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Selkirkshire.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Selkirkshire.1

     Elizabeth Isabella Johnstone-Gordon was the daughter of Captain Charles Kinnaird Johnstone-Gordon and Elizabeth Gordon.1,2 She married Hugh Scott, 9th of Gala, son of John Scott, 8th of Gala and Magdalen Hope, on 8 September 1857.1 She died in 1917.1
     She was also known as Elizabeth Mary Johnstone-Gordon.2 From 8 September 1857, her married name became Scott.
