     Elizabeth Mary Doveton Sturdee was born on 21 September 1919.² She was the daughter of Rear-Admiral Sir Lionel Arthur Doveton Sturdee, 2nd Bt. and Dorothy Mary Mowbray Sayer.^1,3 She married Admiral Sir Edward Beckwith Ashmore, son of Vice-Admiral Leslie Haliburton Ashmore and Tamara Vasilevna Schutt, on 11 December 1942.¹ She died on 26 April 2014 at age 94.³
     She gained the rank of 2nd Officer in the Women’s Royal Naval Service, during teh Second World War.² From 11 December 1942, her married name became Ashmore.¹

     Rear-Admiral Sir Lionel Arthur Doveton Sturdee, 2nd Bt. was born on 3 September 1884.² He was the son of Admiral of the Fleet Sir Frederick Charles Doveton Sturdee, 1st Bt. and Marion Adela Andrews.³ He married Dorothy Mary Mowbray Sayer, daughter of William Feetham Sayer and Edith Alexandra Bell, on 3 February 1910.² He died on 19 December 1970 at age 86.^3,4
     He was educated at Stanmore Park School.² He was commissioned in 1899, in the service of the Royal Navy.² He was educated at H.M.S. Britannia, England^G.² He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1906.² He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Commander in 1914.² He fought in the First World War.² He gained the rank of Commander in 1918.² He gained the title of 2nd Baronet Sturdee, of the Falkland islands [U.K., 1916] on 7 May 1925.⁵ He gained the rank of Captain in 1926.² He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral in 1938.² He was Chief Telecommunications Censor between 1940 and 1945.² He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1946.⁵ On his death his baronetcy became extinct.³
