     William Wavell Wakefield, 1st Baron Wakefield of Kendal was born on 10 March 1898.¹ He was the son of Roger William Wakefield and Ethel Mary Knott.^1,3 He married Rowena Doris Lewis, daughter of Llewellyn Lewis, on 19 November 1919.⁴ He died in 1983.⁴
     William Wavell Wakefield, 1st Baron Wakefield of Kendal usually went by his middle name of Wavell.¹ He was educated at Sedbergh School, Sedbergh, Cumbria, England.⁴ He fought in the First World War.⁴ He gained the rank of officer in the Royal Naval Air Service.⁴ He gained the rank of officer in 1918 in the Royal Air Force.⁴ He graduated from Pembroke College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1923 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)⁴ He graduated from Pembroke College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1927 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)⁴ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Swindon between 1935 and 1945.⁴ He was Director of Air Traffic Command between 1942 and 1944.⁴ He was appointed Knight in 1944.⁴ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for St. Marylebone between 1945 and 1963.⁴ He was chairman of Parliamentary and Scientific Committee between 1952 and 1955.⁴ He was created 1st Baron Wakefield of Kendal, of Kendal, co. Westmorland [U.K.] on 15 November 1963.¹ On his death his barony expired.⁴
