He held the office of Governor of County Clare.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Viscount Clare, co. Clare [I., 1662] circa 1670.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Moyarta [I., 1662] circa 1670.1 In January 1675/76 at The Hague, The NetherlandsG, he was in the service of the Prince of Orange.1 In 1689 he raised two regiments of infantry and one of dragoons in Ireland for King James II.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Ireland] in 1689.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) [Ireland] on 7 May 1689, in King James II’s irish Parliament.2 He fought in the Battle of Lisnaskea on 26 July 1689, where his regiments were ‘cut almost to pieces.1‘ He fought in the Battle of the Boyne on 1 July 1690.2 In 1691 he was attainted and his titles and estates were forfeited.2
On 11 May 1691 he was outlawed, and his titles forfeited.1
