He inherited from his father the estate of Windmill Hill, Farnborough.3 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Royal Navy.3 He gained the rank of Commander in the Honourable East India Company Service.3 He was chairman of Mr Winsor’s Committee for Gas Lighting in 1807.3 He was Governor of the Gas Light and Coke Company in 1812.3 He was Master Attendant in the Honourable East India Company Service Madras between 1821 and 1827.3 He was Captain of the Brunswick and London, with the East India Company Service Service.1

Charlotte Sophia Digby1 
Charlotte Sophia Digby was born in 1767.1 She was the daughter of Very Rev. Hon. William Digby and Charlotte Cox.1 She married Sir John Sheffield, 2nd Bt., son of Sir Charles Herbert Sheffield, 1st Bt. and Margaret Diana Sabine, on 3 April 1784.2 She died on 15 December 1835.2
From 3 April 1784, her married name became Sheffield.
Sir John Sheffield, 2nd Bt.1
He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.2 He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Sheffield, of Normanby, co. Lincoln [G.B., 1755] on 5 September 1774.2
