He succeeded as the 3rd Viscount Downe [I., 1681] circa May 1741.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Yorkshire between 1750 and 1760.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 25th Foot.1 He was Lord of the Bedchamber to the Prince of Wales.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.)1 He fought in the Battle of Minden in 1759.1 He fought in the Battle of Campen on 16 October 1760.1
John Dawnay, 4th Viscount Downe1 
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Cirencester between 1754 and 1768.1 He succeeded as the 4th Viscount Downe [I., 1681] on 9 December 1760.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Malton between 1768 and 1774.1
