Archibald Douglas McAlpine usually went by his middle name of Douglas.2 He was educated at Cheltenham College, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England.2 He graduated from Glasgow University, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, in 1913 with a Bachelor of Medicine (M.B.)2 He fought in the First World War.2 He graduated from Glasgow University, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, with a Bachelor of Surgery (Ch.B.)2 He was registered as a Member, Royal College of Physicians, London (M.R.C.P.) London in 1921.2 He graduated from Glasgow University, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, in 1923 with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.)2 He was appointed Fellow, Royal College of Physicians, London (F.R.C.P.) in 1932.2 He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.2 He gained the rank of Consultant Neurologist between 1941 and 1943 in the MEF.2 He gained the rank of Consultant Neurologist between 1943 and 1945 in the India Command and SEAC.2 He gained the rank of Temporary Brigadier in the Royal Army Medical Corps.2
