     Mary Coke was the daughter of Rt. Hon. Thomas Coke and Lady Mary Stanhope.1,2 She married Thomas Southwell, 2nd Baron Southwell of Castle Mattress, son of Thomas Southwell, 1st Baron Southwell of Castle Mattress and Lady Meliora Coningsby, in March 1719.1 She died on 17 August 1766.1
     From March 1719, her married name became Southwell.1 After her marriage, Mary Coke was styled as Baroness Southwell of Castle Mattress on 4 August 1720.

Thomas Coke was baptised on 19 February 1674 at Derbyshire, EnglandG.2 He was the son of John Coke and Mary Leventhorpe.1,2 He married, firstly, Lady Mary Stanhope, daughter of Philip Stanhope, 2nd Earl of Chesterfield and Lady Elizabeth Dormer.2 He married, secondly, Mary Hale, daughter of Richard Hale and Elizabeth Meynell, on 13 October 1709 at Melbourne, Derbyshire, EnglandG.2 He died in 1727.3
     He was educated at New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Derbyshire between 1698 and 1710.4 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Grampound between 1710 and 1715.4 He held the office of Vice-Chamberlain to Queen Anne between 1711 and 1727.5 He lived at Melbourne Hall, Melbourne, Derbyshire, EnglandG.1
