Terence Edmund Gascoigne Nugent, 1st and last Baron Nugent was born on 11 August 1895.1 He was the son of George Colborne Nugent and Isabel Mary Bulwer.3 He married Rosalie Heathcote-Drummond-Willoughby, daughter of Brig.-Gen. Hon. Charles Strathavon Heathcote-Drummond-Willoughby and Lady Muriel Agnes Stuart Erskine, on 25 April 1935.1 He died on 27 April 1973 at age 77, without issue.1,4
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Major in the Irish Guards.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches and was wounded.1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1918.1 He was appointed Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) in 1927.1 He was Equerry to HRH The Duke of York between 1927 and 1937.1 He was Brigade Major of the Brigade Guards between 1929 and 1933.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1936.1 He was Comptroller of the Lord Chamberlain’s Office between 1936 and 1960.1 He was appointed Commander, Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.) in 1937.1 He held the office of Extra Equerry to HM King George VI between 1937 and 1952.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Royal Victorian Order (K.C.V.O.) in 1945.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Royal Victorian Order (G.C.V.O.) in 1952.1 He held the office of Extra Equerry to HM Queen Elizabeth II between 1952 and 1973.1 He was awarded the Grand Officier, Ordre national de la Légion d’honneur in 1960.1 He was Permanent Lord-in-Waiting between 1960 and 1973.1 He was created 1st Baron Nugent, of West Harling, co. Norfolk [U.K.] on 22 August 1960.1 On his death, his barony became extinct.1
