John Drummond, 1st Earl of Melfort1 

John Drummond, 1st Earl of Melfort was born on 8 August 1650.3 He was the son of James Drummond, 3rd Earl of Perth and Lady Anne Gordon.4 He married, firstly, Sophia Maitland, daughter of Robert Maitland and Margaret Lundie, on 30 September 1670.3 He married, secondly, Euphemia Wallace, daughter of Sir Thomas Wallace, in 1680.3 He died on 25 January 1714/15 at age 64 at Paris, FranceG.3
He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in 1678.4 He held the office of Master of Ordnance in 1680.4 He held the office of Secretary of State in 1684.4 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) from January 1684/85 to February 1688/89.4 He was created 1st Viscount of Melfort [Scotland] on 14 April 1685.4 He was created 1st Lord Drummond of Gillestoun [Scotland] on 14 April 1685.4 He was created 1st Lord Drummond of Riccartoun, Castlemains and Gilstoun [Scotland] on 12 August 1686.4 He was created 1st Viscount of Forth [Scotland] on 12 August 1686.4 He gained the title of 1st Earl of Melfort [Scotland] on 21 August 1686.5 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Thistle (K.T.) in 1687.4 He was created 1st Baron of Clewer [England] on 7 August 1689, Jacobite.4 He was created 1st Earl of Isla and Burntizland [Scotland] on 17 April 1692, Jacobite.4 He was created 1st Marquess of Forth [Scotland] on 17 April 1692, Jacobite.4 He was created 1st Duke of Melfort [Scotland] on 17 April 1692, Jacobite.4 He was created 1st Viscount of Rickerton [Scotland] on 17 April 1692, Jacobite.4 He was created 1st Lord Castlemains and Galston [Scotland] on 17 April 1692, Jacobite.4 In 1694 he was outlawed in England and Scotland.4 On 2 July 1695 he was forfeited, when his substantive titles were removed.4 He was created Duc de Melfort [France] in 1701.4
