Captain James Montgomerie Caulfeild was born on 22 February 1855.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. William Montgomerie Stewart Caulfeild and Dorothea Jane French.2 He married Kathleen Ruth Crofton, daughter of Lt.-Col. Hugh Augustus Crofton and Amelia Harriet Farquharson, on 6 February 1889.2 He died on 26 October 1946 at age 91, without issue.2

Lt.-Col. Hugh Augustus Crofton was born on 6 June 1829.2 He was the son of Reverend Augustus Crofton and Charlotte Kirwan.2 He married, firstly, Amelia Harriet Farquharson, daughter of Captain Charles Farquharson, on 7 February 1856.2 He married, secondly, Joan Ruby Mackintosh, daughter of Donald Mackintosh, on 20 July 1892.2 He died on 7 April 1901 at age 71.2
He gained the rank of officer in the 6th and 10th Regiments.3 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 1st Sussex Volunteers.2
