     Ernest William Beckett, 2nd Baron Grimthorpe was born on 25 November 1856.¹ He was the son of William Beckett-Denison and Hon. Helen Duncombe.¹ He married Lucy Lee, daughter of William Tracy Lee, on 4 October 1883.¹ He died on 9 May 1917 at age 60.³
     He was given the name of Ernest William Beckett-Denison at birth.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Whitby between 1885 and 1905.¹ In 1886 his name was legally changed to Ernest William Beckett.¹ He gained the rank of Major and Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel in the York Hussars.¹ He gained the rank of DAG in the Imperial Yeomanry.¹ He was senior partner of Beckett & Comapny, Leeds bankers.¹ He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Grimthorpe, of Grimthorpe, in the East Riding, co.      Hon. Helen Duncombe was the daughter of William Duncombe, 2nd Baron Feversham of Duncombe Park and Lady Louisa Stewart.^1,2 She married William Beckett-Denison, son of Sir Edmund Beckett, 4th Bt. and Maria Beverley, on 17 February 1855.¹ She was also reported to have been married on 18 July 1855.² She died on 22 November 1896.¹ She was also reported to have died on 24 November 1896.²
     From 17 February 1855, her married name became Beckett-Denison.¹
