He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Balliol College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was a practising Barrister-at-Law in 1845.1 He was appointed Queen’s Counsel (Q.C.) in 1862.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Indian Empire (C.I.E.)1 He was law member of the Council of the Governor-General of India in 1872.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Star of India (K.C.S.I.)1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.)1 He was member of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in 1881.1 He was created 1st Baron Hobhouse, of Hadspen, co. Somerset [U.K.] on 2 July 1885.1 On his death, his title became extinct.1
