     Rt. Rev. Edmund Hobhouse was born on 17 April 1817.¹ He was the son of Rt. Hon. Henry Hobhouse and Harriet Turton.¹ He married, firstly, Mary Elizabeth Brodrick, daughter of General Hon. John Brodrick and Anne Graham, on 1 January 1858.¹ He married, secondly, Anna William, daughter of Dr. David William, on 7 January 1868.¹ He died on 20 April 1904 at age 87 at Wells, Norfolk, England.²
     He was educated at Balliol College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.² He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) in 1858.¹ He held the office of Bishop of Nelson, New Zealand between 1858 and 1865.¹
