He was educated at King’s School, Parramatta, New South Wales, AustraliaG.4 He was commissioned on 20 August 1924 with the rank of Lieutenant, in the service of the Militia.4 He fought in the Second World War between 1939 and 1943, where he was mentioned in despatches three times.2 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1941.1 He was awarded the Efficiency Decoration (E.D.) in 1942.1 He was GOC of the 2 Division, Australian Imperial Force.2 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1951.1 He gained the rank of Major-General in 1954.2 He was appointed Knight in 1964.2
