He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Ross-shire [Scotland] in 1685, but didn’t serve ‘by reason his father was nobiliate.1‘ In April 1691 he was tried by the Court of Justiciary for the murder of Sieur de la Roche (killed in a tavern brawl in Leith), and was acquitted.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Lord Macleod and Castlehaven [S., 1703] on 17 August 1714.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Viscount of Tarbat [S., 1703] on 17 August 1714.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Viscount of Tarbat [S., 1685] on 17 August 1714.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Earl of Cromarty [S., 1703] on 17 August 1714.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Lord Macleod and Castlehaven [S., 1685] on 17 August 1714.1 In 1724 he became insolvent and his estates were sequestered.3
