     Alexander Innes, 18th of that Ilk and 3rd of Cromey was born in 1537.2 He was the son of James Innes, 2nd of Cromey and Catherine Gordon.2 He married, firstly, Beatrix Dunbar, daughter of Alexander Dunbar, circa 1551.2,3 He married, secondly, Janet Urquhart, daughter of Alexander Urquhart of Cromarty, in 1563.2 He married, thirdly, Isobel Forbes, daughter of Arthur Forbes of Logie and Balfour, on 18 December 1565.1 He died on 13 April 1580 at Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, murdered by Robert Innes of Innermarkie.1,2
     On 2 December 1578 he received from John Innes of that Ilk the chieftainship and estates.2
