     Jean Gordon was the daughter of Alexander Gordon, 3rd Earl of Huntly and Lady Jean Stewart.1 She married Colin Campbell, 3rd Earl of Argyll, son of Archibald Campbell, 2nd Earl of Argyll and Lady Elizabeth Stuart, before 28 February 1506/7.1 She married Duncan Stewart, younger of Appin, son of Alan Stewart, 3rd of Appin and unknown daughter Cameron, after 1529.2
     Her married name became Campbell. After her marriage, Jean Gordon was styled as Countess of Argyll on 9 September 1513. From after 1529, her married name became Stewart.2

Archibald Campbell, 4th Earl of Argyll1

     Archibald Campbell, 4th Earl of Argyll was the son of Colin Campbell, 3rd Earl of Argyll and Jean Gordon.1 He married, firstly, Lady Helen Hamilton, daughter of James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Arran and Janet Bethune, after 27 August 1529.1,2 He married, secondly, Lady Margaret Graham, daughter of William Graham, 3rd Earl of Menteith and Margaret Moubray, on 21 April 1541 at Priory of Inchmahome, Inchmahome.1 He married by contract, thirdly, Catherine Maclean, daughter of Lachlan ‘Cattanach’ Maclean, 7th of Duart and Marion Maclean, on 12 March 1545/46.1,2 He died between 21 August 1558 and 2 December 1558 at Dulnynn, ScotlandG.3 He was buried at Kilmun, CowalG.
     He succeeded as the 5th Lord Campbell [S., 1445] in 1529.1 He succeeded as the 4th Lord Lorne [S., 1470] in 1529.1 He succeeded as the 4th Earl of Argyll [S., 1457] in 1529.1 He held the office of Justiciar [Scotland] on 28 October 1529.1 He held the office of Master of the Household on 28 October 1529.1 He held the office of Master of the King’s wine cellar on 28 March 1542.1 In 1543 the lands of of Muckart, Perthsire were bestowed on him for his services in the defence of the Church against heresies.1 He held the office of Justiciar of Bute in 1545.1 He fought in the Battle of Pinkie on 10 September 1547, where he commanded a body of Highlanders.1 He fought in the Siege of Haddington in 1548.1 After 1548 he was won over by English gold, and went over to the English side.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.4

     After her marriage, Lady Helen Hamilton was styled as Countess of Argyll after 27 August 1529. From after 27 August 1529, her married name became Campbell.

William Boyd, 3rd Earl of Kilmarnock

     William Boyd, 3rd Earl of Kilmarnock was born in 1683/84.1 He was the son of William Boyd, 2nd Earl of Kilmarnock and Letitia Boyd.1 He married Euphemia Ross, daughter of William Ross, 12th Lord Ross of Halkhead and Agnes Wilkie, circa 1700.1 He died in September 1717.1
     He succeeded as the 3rd Earl of Kilmarnock [S., 1661] on 29 May 1692.1 He succeeded as the 12th Lord Boyd of Kilmarnock [S., c. 1454] on 29 May 1692.1 In 1707 he voted for the Parliamentary Union with England.1 On 22 January 1707 he was granted a fresh charter limited remainder of the Earldom to (a) heirs male of his body, in default of which to (b) his daughters in succession and the heirs male of their bodiies and in dafault of (b) to (c) his nearest legitimate heirs and assignees whatsoever.1 In 1715 he led 500 men against the Jacobites.1

     Colin Campbell, 6th Earl of Argyll was the son of Archibald Campbell, 4th Earl of Argyll and Lady Margaret Graham.1 He married by contract, firstly, Joan Stewart, daughter of Henry Stewart, 1st Lord Methven and Lady Janet Stewart, on 14 October 1551.1 He married, secondly, Lady Anne Keith, daughter of William Keith, 3rd Earl Marischal and Margaret Keith, between 13 January 1571 and 26 February 1572.1,2 He died on 10 September 1584.1 His will (dated 5 September 1584) was proven (by probate) on 23 June 1586 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1
     He succeeded as the 6th Lord Lorne [S., 1470] on 12 September 1573.1 He succeeded as the 6th Earl of Argyll [S., 1457] on 12 September 1573.1 He succeeded as the 7th Lord Campbell [S., 1445] on 12 September 1573.1 He held the office of Lord Chancellor [Scotland] on 10 August 1579.1 He lived at Boquhan, Stirlingshire, ScotlandG.3 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.4
