Sir Robert Jardine of Castlemilk, 1st Bt.1 
He was head of the firm of Jardine, Matheson, China merchants in 1865.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Ashburton between 1865 and 1868.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Dumfries Burghs between 1868 and 1874.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Dumfries-shire between 1880 and 1892.1 He was created 1st Baronet Jardine, of Castlemilk, co. Dumfries [U.K.] on 20 July 1885.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Perthshire.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Perthshire.1

He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He was educated at Magdalene College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG.1 He was head of the firm of Jardine, Matheson, China merchants.1 He gained the rank of Major in the 1st Battalion, Dumfriesshire Voluntary Regiment.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 3rd Volunteer Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Jardine, of Castlemilk, co. Dumfries [U.K., 1885] on 17 February 1905.1
