     William Smith was born on 8 January 1787 at Dunlop Street, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 He was the son of Archibald Smith and Isabel Ewing.1 He married Sarah Wallis on 3 February 1829 at Ibrox Hill, Govan, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 He died on 15 May 1871 at age 84 at Kirknewton, Midlothian, Scotland.1

     From 22 November 1709, her married name became Gordon.1

     From 1717, her married name became Duff.2 From after 1735, her married name became Gordon.1
