     He succeeded to the barony of Duff through his mother.2 He was given the name of Lachlan Duff at birth.1 He was a practising Writer to the Signet (W.S.)2 He lived in 1804 at Park, Banffshire, Scotland.2 In 1804 his name was legally changed to Lachlan Duff Gordon.2
