He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.3 He fought in the Boer War between 1900 and 1901, where he was severely wounded.2 He gained the rank of Major in the 10th Hussars.1 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1915, where he was wounded and was mentioned in despatches.2 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)1
