(Conservative) for Surrey South-West between 1984 and 2005.¹ She held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)¹ She was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1992.¹ She held the office of Secretary of State, Health between 1992 and 1995.¹ She held the office of Secretary of State, National Heritage between 1995 and 1997.¹ She was created Baroness Bottomley of Nettlestone, of St. Helens in the County of Isle of Wight [U.K. Life Peer] on 24 June 2005.¹ She held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Surrey in 2006.³

     William John Poulton Maxwell Garnett was born on 6 August 1921 at London, England.² He was the son of James Clerk Maxwell Garnett and Margaret Lucy Poulton.³ He married Barbara Rutherford-Smith, daughter of unknown Rutherford-Smith, in 1943.² He and Barbara Rutherford-Smith were divorced in 1985.² He married Dame Julia Cleverdon, daughter of Thomas Douglas James Cleverdon and Elinor Nest Lewis, in 1986.² He died on 14 August 1997 at age 76 at Paros, Greece.²
     He lived at Horestone Point, Seaview, Isle of Wight, England^G.¹ William John Poulton Maxwell Garnett usually went by his middle name of John.⁴ He was director of Industrial Society between 1962 and 1986.² He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1970.⁴

     Barbara Rutherford-Smith is the daughter of unknown Rutherford-Smith.² She married William John Poulton Maxwell Garnett, son of James Clerk Maxwell Garnett and Margaret Lucy Poulton, in 1943.³ She and William John Poulton Maxwell Garnett were divorced in 1985.³
     From 1943, her married name became Garnett.¹

     Sir Peter James Bottomley was born on 30 July 1944.³ He is the son of Sir James Reginald Alfred Bottomley and Barbara Evelyn Vardon.¹ He married Virginia Hilda Brunette Maxwell Garnett, Baroness Bottomley of Nettlestone, daughter of William John Poulton Maxwell Garnett and Barbara Rutherford-Smith, in 1967.¹

     Sir James Reginald Alfred Bottomley was born on 12 January 1920.¹ He was the son of Sir William Cecil Bottomley.¹ He married Barbara Evelyn Vardon, daughter of Henry George Evelyn Vardon and Cecilia Laura Lenox-Conyngham, on 23 August 1941.² He died on 5 June 2013 at age 93.³
     He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.)¹ He held the office of Ambassador to South Africa.² He lived in 1976 at Chiltern Rise, Aldbury, Tring, Hertfordshire, England^G.²

     Barbara Evelyn Vardon was born on 1 August 1919.² She was the daughter of Henry George Evelyn Vardon and Cecilia Laura Lenox-Conyngham.³ She married Sir James Reginald Alfred Bottomley, son of Sir William Cecil Bottomley, on 23 August 1941.² She died in 1994.¹
     She graduated from London School of Economics, London, England^G, with a Social Sciences Diploma.² She was with the Motor Transport Corps during the Second World War.² From 23 August 1941, her married name became Bottomley.¹ She was a social worker in children’s departments.²

     Sir William Cecil Bottomley was born on 19 March 1878.² He was the son of William Bottomley.² He died in 1954.²

     Sebastian de Aviz, Rei de Portugal was the son of João Manuel de Aviz, Principe de Portugal and Juana von Habsburg. He died in 1578.¹
     He succeeded as the Rei Sebastian de Portugal in 1557.¹
