Hon. Stephen William Buchanan Coleridge was born in 1854.1 He is the son of John Duke Coleridge, 1st Baron Coleridge of Ottery St. Mary and Jane Fortescue Seymour.1,3 He married, firstly, Geraldine Beatrice Lushington, daughter of Charles Manner Lushington and Hon. Henriette Stafford Northcote, on 5 April 1879.1 He married, secondly, Susan G. J. Stewart, daughter of Allan Duncan Stewart and Susan Mitchelson, on 8 July 1911.1
He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was a practising barrister.1 He was Clerk of Assize, South Wales Circuit.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.4

John Duke Coleridge, 1st Baron Coleridge of Ottery St. Mary1 
John Duke Coleridge, 1st Baron Coleridge of Ottery St. Mary was born on 3 December 1820.3 He was the son of Rt. Hon. Sir John Taylor Coleridge and Mary Buchanan.4 He married, firstly, Jane Fortescue Seymour, daughter of Reverend George Turner Seymour and Marianne Billingsley, on 11 August 1846.3 He married, secondly, Amy Augusta Jackson Lawford, daughter of Henry Baring Lawford, on 13 August 1885.3 He died on 14 June 1894 at age 73.4
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.3 He was educated at Balliol College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.3 He was admitted to Middle Temple in 1846 entitled to practise as a barrister.3 He held the office of Recorder of Portsmouth between 1855 and 1866.3 He held the office of Bencher of the Middle Temple in 1861.3 He was appointed Queen’s Counsel (Q.C.) in 1861.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Exeter between 1865 and 1873.3 He held the office of Solicitor-General between 1868 and 1871.3 He held the office of Attorney-General between 1871 and 1873.3 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1873.3 He held the office of Lord Chief Justice of Common Pleas between 1873 and 1880.3 He was created 1st Baron Coleridge of Ottery St. Mary, co. Devon [U.K.] on 10 January 1874.3 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Law (D.C.L.) by Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1877.3 He held the office of Lord Chief Justice between 1880 and 1894.3 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.5
