     He was commissioned on 10 January 1883 with the rank of Cadet, in the service of the Royal Navy.¹ He gained the rank of Midshipman on 12 August 1885.¹ He gained the rank of Acting Sub-Lieutenant on 4 July 1887.¹ He gained the rank of Sub-Lieutenant on 31 December 1888.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant on 3 January 1891.¹ He gained the rank of Commander on 1 January 1902.¹ He gained the rank of Captain between 1909 and 1913.¹ He was Director of the Chinese Naval Training College between 1913 and 1916 at Shanghai, China^G.¹ He was captain of the H.M.S. Sappho.¹

     Lt.-Col. Ewan Christian was born in 1874 at Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England^G.¹ He was the son of Admiral Henry Christian and Emily Margaret Moore.¹ He died at Pretoria, Transvaal, South Africa^G.¹
     He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.)² He fought in the Boer War.² He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)² He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Scots Fusiliers.² He fought in the First World War.² He was Commandant between 1919 and 1933 at Military College, Pretoria, Transvaal, South Africa^G.¹ He lived at The Gardens, Pretoria, Transvaal, South Africa^G.²

     Emily Susan Christian was born in 1866 at Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England^G.¹ She was the daughter of Admiral Henry Christian and Emily Margaret Moore.¹ She married William Frederick Hicks-Beach, son of Sir Michael Hicks-Beach, 8th Bt. and Harriett Vittoria Stratton, on 25 November 1903.^2,3 She died on 17 November 1958, without issue.²
     From 25 November 1903, her married name became Hicks-Beach.¹ She wrote the book The Yesterdays Behind the Door, published 1956, a major chronicle of the Christian family.¹ She also published a number of biographies and novels.¹

     William Frederick Hicks-Beach was born on 16 July 1841 at Whitcombe Park, Gloucestershire, England^G.^1,2 He was the son of Sir Michael Hicks-Beach, 8th Bt. and Harriett Vittoria Stratton.^1,2 He married, firstly, Elizabeth Caroline Tyrwhitt-Drake, daughter of Thomas Tyrwhitt-Drake and Elizabeth Julia Stratton, on 5 July 1865.² He married, secondly, Emily Susan Christian, daughter of Admiral Henry Christian and Emily Margaret Moore, on 25 November 1903.^3,4 He died on 7 September 1923 at age 82.¹
     He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Tewkesbury between 1916 and 1918.⁵ He lived at Whitcombe Park, Gloucestershire, England^G.⁵

     William Fenton married Honora FitzMaurice, daughter of Patrick FitzMaurice, 17th Baron of Kerry and Lixnaw and Honor FitzGerald.¹

     Mary Constance Christian was born in 1868 at Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England^G.¹ She is the daughter of Admiral Henry Christian and Emily Margaret Moore.¹ She married Ernest Ward Thomas, son of Joseph Thomas, in 1893.²
     From 1893, her married name became Thomas.²

     Ernest Ward Thomas was born at Hansdon Bury, Hertfordshire, England^G.¹ He was the son of Joseph Thomas.¹ He married Mary Constance Christian, daughter of Admiral Henry Christian and Emily Margaret Moore, in 1893.² He died in 1942.¹

     Joseph Thomas lived at Shenley Hall, Hertfordshire, England^G.²

     Lilian Christian was born in 1870 at Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England^G.¹ She was the daughter of Admiral Henry Christian and Emily Margaret Moore.¹ She died in 1908, unmarried.¹

     Gerald fitz Maurice was born circa 1220.² He was the son of Maurice fitz Gerald, 2nd Baron of Offaly and Juliane de Grenville.¹ He died in 1243.¹
