He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.2 He was educated at Edinburgh Academy, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.2 He graduated from St. John’s College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1798 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)2 He was admitted to Lincoln’s Inn on 23 January 1798.1 He graduated from St. John’s College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1801 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)2 He was registered as a Barrister-at-Law in 1803.1 He held the office of Member of the House of Keys (M.H.K.)2 He held the office of Deemster between 2 June 1822 and 1852.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Somerset.1 From his marriage in 1807 until 1822 he lived at Ewanrigg Hall, Cumberland, and then, on his appointment as Deemster, moved to Fort Anne, Douglas, Isle of Man. In 1830, having had the ancient ancestral home, Milntown, restored, he moved to it with his family, the first Christian to have lived there for a century and a half.1
