From 14 May 1717, her married name became Christian.1

He was educated at Appleby Grammar School, Appleby, Westmorland, EnglandG.3 He was educated at St. Bees, Cumberland, EnglandG.3 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)3 In 1765 he headed a deputation to London over the surrender by the Duke of Atholl’s rights to the Isle of Man.3 He held the office of High Sheriff of Cumberland in 1766.3

Captain Edward Christian1 
In 1746 he went out to war on the Coromandel Coast in H.M.S. Princess Mary, flagship of Admiral Griffin.2 He gained the rank of Captain before 1749 in the Royal Navy.1

He graduated from St. John’s College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1779 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)3 He graduated from St. John’s College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1782 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)3 He was admitted to Gray’s Inn on 5 July 1782 entitled to practise as a Barrister-at-Law.3 He was a professor of law in 1800 at Downing College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG.1,3 He held the office of Chief Justice of the Isle of Ely in 1805.1 He held the office of Bencher on 7 June 1809.3 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.3

He was author of many legal books, including editing Blackstone’s Commentaries. He wrote a defence of his brother Fletcher Christian, of which no copy can be found.4
