(Conservative) for Kingston-upon-Thames between 1945 and 1972.¹ He held the office of Finance Secretary of the Treasury between 1951 and 1954.¹ He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1954.¹ He held the office of Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation between 1954 and 1955.¹ He held the office of Minister of Pensions and National Insurance between 1955 and 1962.¹ He held the office of Chief Secretary of the Treasury and Paymaster-General between 1962 and 1964.¹ He was created Baron Boyd-Carpenter, of Crux Easton in the County of Southampton [U.K. Life Peer] on 1 May 1972.^1,3 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Greater London in 1973.¹ He held the office of High Steward of Kingston-upon-Thames between 1973 and 1998.¹

     Margaret Mary Hall was born on 26 May 1910.^2,3 She was the daughter of Lt.-Col. George Leslie Hall and Dorothy Mary Coventry.^1,2 She married John Archibald Boyd-Carpenter, Baron Boyd-Carpenter, son of Sir Archibald Boyd-Carpenter and Annie Dugdale, in 1937.¹ She died on 16 August 2003 at age 93.²
     From 1937, her married name became Boyd-Carpenter.¹ After her marriage, Margaret Mary Hall was styled as Baroness Boyd-Carpenter on 1 May 1972.

     Lt.-Col. George Leslie Hall was born on 17 August 1882.² He was the son of Edwin Thomas Hall and Florence Byrne.^3,2 He married Dorothy Mary Coventry, daughter of John Coventry and Mary Emily Weld, on 30 June 1909.³ He died on 14 January 1947 at age 64 at London, England^G.^3,2
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Engineers.¹ He was awarded the Chevalier, Legion of Honour.² He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.)¹ He wrote the book Elementary Theory of Alternate Current Working.²

     Hon. Anne Mary Boyd-Carpenter was born in 1942.¹ She is the daughter of John Archibald Boyd-Carpenter, Baron Boyd-Carpenter and Margaret Mary Hall.¹

     Sarah Elizabeth Mary Boyd-Carpenter, Baroness Hogg was born on 14 May 1946.¹ She is the daughter of John Archibald Boyd-Carpenter, Baron Boyd-Carpenter and Margaret Mary Hall.¹ She married Douglas Martin Hogg, Baron Hailsham of Kettlethorpe, son of Quintin McGarel Hogg, Baron Hailsham of St. Marylebone and Mary Evelyn Martin, on 6 June 1968.²
     She was educated at St. Mary’s Convent School, Ascot, Berkshire, England^G.² She was educated at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G.² She was with the Economist between 1967 and 1977.² From 6 June 1968, her married name became Hogg.² She was economics editor for the Sunday Times in 1981.² She was economics editor for The Times between 1984 and 1986.² She was assistant editor for The Independent between 1986 and 1989.² She was a presenter for Channel 4 News.² She was economics editor for the Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph between 1989 and 1990.² She was head of the Prime Minister’s Policy Unit between 1990 and 1995.² She co-authored the book Too Close to Call, published 1995.² She was created Baroness Hogg, of Kettlethorpe in the County of Lincolnshire [U.K. Life Peer] on 3 February 1995.³

     Robert Clark Orr was born circa May 1840 at Saltcoats, Ardrossan, Ayrshire, Scotland^G.^2,3 He was the son of Robert Orr and Mary Clark.² He married Annie Morton Boyd, daughter of James Boyd, in 1870. He died in April 1914.²

     Elizabeth Pearson Callum is the daughter of John Bainbridge Callum.¹ She married John Boyd-Orr, 1st and last Baron Boyd-Orr, son of Robert Clark Orr and Annie Morton Boyd, on 21 February 1915.¹
     From 21 February 1915, her married name became Boyd-Orr.¹

     John Bainbridge Callum lived at West Kilbride, Ayrshire, Scotland^G.¹

     Donald Noel Boyd-Orr was born on 19 May 1921.¹ He was the son of John Boyd-Orr, 1st and last Baron Boyd-Orr and Elizabeth Pearson Callum.¹ He died on 25 December 1941 at age 20, killed in action, on a Coastal Command mission.^1,2
     He fought in the Second World War.³ He gained the rank of Sergeant in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.²
