     Mary Evelyn Martin was born on 19 May 1919.3 She was the daughter of Richard Evelyn Martin and Amelia Lizzie Lambert.1,3 She married Quintin McGarel Hogg, Baron Hailsham of St. Marylebone, son of Douglas McGarel Hogg, 1st Viscount Hailsham and Elizabeth Brown, on 18 April 1944.1 She died on 10 March 1978 at age 58, killed in a riding accident.1
     She was with the War Office between 1939 and 1944.3 From 18 April 1944, her married name became Hogg.1 After her marriage, Mary Evelyn Martin was styled as Viscountess Hailsham between 16 August 1950 and 20 November 1963. After her marriage, Mary Evelyn Martin was styled as Baroness Hailsham of St. Marylebone on 3 June 1970. She held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) in 1974.3
