Edward Bligh, 5th Earl of Darnley was born on 25 February 1795.3 He was the son of John Bligh, 4th Earl of Darnley and Elizabeth Brownlow.1,3 He married Hon. Emma Jane Parnell, daughter of Henry Brooke Parnell, 1st Baron Congleton and Lady Caroline Elizabeth Dawson-Damer, on 26 July 1825.3 He died on 12 February 1835 at age 39.1
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Canterbury between 1818 and 1830.3 He held the office of Lieutenant of County Meath.3 He succeeded as the 5th Viscount Darnley of Athboy, co.
