     Joseph Bell of Blackethouse was born on 25 November 1786.¹ He was the son of Benjamin Bell of Blackethouse and Grizel Hamilton.¹ He married Roberta Craigie, daughter of David Craigie of Dumbarnie, on 20 June 1809 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.^1,2 He died on 22 January 1848 at age 61.¹
     He was appointed Fellow, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (F.R.C.S.E.) in 1808.¹
