Devon [E., 1641] on 9 February 1691/92.1 He matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, on 28 January 1707/8.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Exeter between 1710 and 1713.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Devon between 1713 and 1727.1

Gertrude Carew was born in 1682.2 She was the daughter of Sir John Carew, 3rd Bt. and Mary Morice.1,3 She married, firstly, Sir Godfrey Copley, 2nd Bt., son of Sir Godfrey Copley, 1st Bt. and Eleanor Walmesley, circa 1700.3,4 She married, secondly, Sir Coplestone Warwick Bamfylde, 3rd Bt., son of Colonel Hugh Bamfylde and Mary Clifford, before 1718.1 She died on 14 April 1736.1 She was buried on 23 April 1736 at Poltimore, Devon, EnglandG.1
From circa 1700, her married name became Copley.3 From before 1718, her married name became Bamfylde.1

He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Copley, of Sprotborough, co. Yorks [E., 1661] in February 1677/78.5 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.)5 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) and founder of the Copley Medal.5 On his death, his baronetcy became extinct.5
