     Sir John Bamfylde, 1st Bt. was born circa 1610.¹ He was the son of John Bamfield and Elizabeth Drake.¹ He married Gertrude Coplestone, daughter of Amyan Coplestone and Gertrude Chichester, on 3 May 1637.¹ He died in April 1650.¹ He was buried at Poltimore, Devon, England^G.¹
     He matriculated at Wadham College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G, on 30 October 1629.¹ He was admitted to Middle Temple in 1630.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Penrhyn between 1640 and 1650.¹ He was created 1st Baronet Bamfylde, of Poltimore, co. Devon [England] on 14 July 1641.¹

     John Bamfield was born circa 1559.¹ He was the son of Sir Amias Bamfield and Elizabeth Clifton.² He married Elizabeth Drake, daughter of Thomas Drake and Elizabeth Hillen.²
     He lived at Poltimore, Devon, England^G.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Devon in 1628/29.²

     Elizabeth Drake was the daughter of Thomas Drake and Elizabeth Hillen.^1,2 She married John Bamfield, son of Sir Amias Bamfield and Elizabeth Clifton.³
     Her married name became Bamfield.³

     Thomas Drake was born in 1556.² He was the son of Edmund Drake and Mary Elizabeth Mylwaye.³ He married Elizabeth Hillen.⁴ He died on 4 April 1606.³
     He lived at Buckland Monachorum, Devon, England.³

     Gertrude Coplestone was the daughter of Amyan Coplestone and Gertrude Chichester.¹ She married Sir John Bamfylde, 1st Bt., son of John Bamfield and Elizabeth Drake, on 3 May 1637.¹ She died in 1658.¹ Her will was proven (by probate) on 29 November 1658.¹
     From 3 May 1637, her married name became Bamfylde.¹ Her last will was dated 8 November 1657.

     Amyan Coplestone married Gertrude Chichester, daughter of Sir John Chichester.¹
     He lived at Coplestone and Warleigh, Tamerton Foliot, Devon, England^G.¹

     Sir Coplestone Bamfylde, 2nd Bt. was born in 1638.¹ He was the son of Sir John Bamfylde, 1st Bt. and Gertrude Coplestone.¹ He married, firstly, Margaret Bulkeley, daughter of Francis Bulkeley.² He married, secondly, Jane Pole, daughter of Sir Courtenay Pole, 2nd Bt. and Ureth Shapcote, circa 21 October 1674 at Houghton, Devon, England^G.^1,3 He died on 9 February 1691/92 at Warleigh, Devon, England^G.¹ He was buried at Poltimore, Devon, England^G.¹ His will was proven (by probate) on 2 May 1692.¹
     He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Bamfylde, of Poltimore, co. Devon [E., 1641] in April 1650.¹ He matriculated at Corpus Christi College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G, on 20 March 1650/51.¹
     He was an active Royalist, and presented to General Monk a ‘petition of right’ from Devon, for which he was imprisoned.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Tiverton in 1659.¹ He held the office of Sheriff of Devon from 1660 to 1661.¹ He gained the rank of Colonel in the Devon Militia.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Devon between 1671 and 1679.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Devon between 1685 and 1687.¹ His last will was dated 24 August 1691.
