Sir Alexander James Beresford Beresford-Hope1 
Sir Alexander James Beresford Beresford-Hope was born on 25 January 1820.3 He was the son of Thomas Hope and Hon. Louisa Beresford.1 He married Lady Mildred Arabella Charlotte Gascoyne-Cecil, daughter of James Brownlow William Gascoyne-Cecil, 2nd Marquess of Salisbury and Frances Mary Gascoyne, on 7 July 1842.4 He died on 20 October 1887 at age 67 at Bedgebury Park, Cranbrook, Kent, England.2
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.)5 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.)5 He was given the name of Alexander James Beresford Hope at birth.1 In 1854 his name was legally changed to Alexander James Beresford Beresford-Hope.2 In February 1854 he inherited Bedgebury Park, Kent and Beresford Hall, Staffordshire from his mother’s second husband, General William Carr Beresford.1

He was tenant in capite of Dursley, Cubberley, Dodington, etc.1 He held the office of Provost of the manor of Berkeley between 1068 and 1071, by Earl William Fitz-Osbern, to whom it had been granted at the time of the Conquest.1 On 17 January 1091 at St. Peter’s, Gloucestershire, EnglandG, a monk.1

Roger de Berkeley1 
He completed the construction of the Castle of Berkeley.1 He suffered during the wars between King Stephen and Empress Maud, at the hands of Walter, son of Miles, Earl of Hereford.1 In 1152 he was deprived of the Manor of Berkeley for refusing the recognise the authority of either Stephen or Maud, although he was soon after restored to the Honour of Dursley.1

Robert fitz Harding1 
He was also known as Robert Fitzhardinge.3 Robert fitz Harding also went by the nick-name of Robert ‘the Devout’.1 He was a merchant at Bristol, EnglandG.1 In 1141 he founded the Abbey of St. Augustine, at Bristol.1 In 1153/54 he received from Henry of Anjou, a grant of the castle and ‘furness’ of Berkeley.1 He gained the title of Lord of Berkeley [feudal baron] in 1155, confirmed by King Henry II.1 In 1168 he entertained Dermot Mac Murrough, King of Leinster, on his arrival.1
