William Bateman-Hanbury, 1st Baron Bateman of Shobdon1 
He was given the name of William Hanbury at birth.1 He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, on 24 April 1798.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Northampton between 1810 and 1818.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Herefordshire between 1819 and 1820.1 In December 1835 he unsuccesfully contested the seat of Northamptonshire, North Division as a Liberal.1 He was created 1st Baron Bateman of Shobdon, co. Hereford [U.K.] on 30 January 1837.1 On 14 February 1837 his name was legally changed to William Bateman-Hanbury by Royal Licence.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Herefordshire between 1841 and 1845.1
