He was Bow Chaser of the Free Chase of Mashamshire in 1632.1 He was created 1st Baronet Armytage, of Kirklees [in the parish of Hartshead], co. York [England] on 15 December 1641.1

John Paulet, 5th Marquess of Winchester1

John Paulet, 5th Marquess of Winchester was born in 1598.2 He was the son of William Paulet, 4th Marquess of Winchester and Lady Lucy Cecil.3 He and Hon. Jane Savage obtained a marriage license on 18 December 1622.3 He married, secondly, Honora de Burgh, daughter of Richard Bourke, 4th Earl of Clanricarde and Frances Walsingham, circa 4 October 1633.3 He married, thirdly, Isabella Howard, daughter of William Howard, 1st and last Viscount Stafford and Mary Stafford, Countess of Stafford, in 1669.4 He died on 5 March 1674/75.5
John Paulet, 5th Marquess of Winchester also went by the nick-name of ‘The Loyal Marquess’.5 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for St. Ives from 1620 to 1622.3 He succeeded as the 5th Marquess of Winchester [E., 1551] on 4 February 1628/29.3 He succeeded as the 5th Baron St. John [E., 1539] on 4 February 1628/29.3 He succeeded as the 5th Earl of Wiltshire [E., 1550] on 4 February 1628/29.3 He held Basing for King Charles I, but it was burnt by the Parliamentarians.3
