Alexander Stewart, 12th Earl of Mar was born illegitimately circa 1375.1 He was the son of Alexander Stewart, 1st Earl of Buchan and Margaret Atheyn.1,2 He married, firstly, Isabel Douglas, Countess of Mar, daughter of William Douglas, 1st Earl of Douglas and Margaret, Countess of Mar, between 5 December 1404 and 9 December 1404.3 He married, secondly, Marie van Hoorn, daughter of Willem van Hoorn, after 1410.3 He died on 6 July 1435, without legitimate issue.3
Alexander Stewart, 12th Earl of Mar also went by the nick-name of ‘The Wolf of Badenoch’.3 After his marriage, Alexander Stewart, 12th Earl of Mar was styled as 12th Earl of Mar [S., c. 1115] on 12 August 1404, after forcing his future wife to grant an eventual abortive charter making over to him, in supposed view of theior forthcoming marriage, the Earldom of Mar and Garioch.2,3 On 9 December 1404 she granted by charter the Earldom of Mar to her husband and heirs of their marriage, whom failing to her heirs.3 He fought in the Battle of Harlaw in 1411, where he defeated the Lord of the Isles.3 He held the office of Admiral of the Scottish Kingdom in 1419/20.3 He held the office of Admiral of the Scottish Kingdom in 1423.3 In 1426 he illegally got the Earldom of Mar granted to himself and his bastard Thomas.3

Janet Gray was the daughter of Patrick Gray, Master of Gray and Annabella Forbes.1,2 She married, firstly, Sir Alexander Blair, 5th of Balthayock, son of Thomas Blair, 4th of Balthayock.1 She married, secondly, Thomas Fraser, 2nd Lord (Fraser of) Lovat, son of Hugh Fraser, 1st Lord (Fraser of) Lovat and Violet Lyon, before 1509.1,3 She married, thirdly, David Lindsay, 9th Earl of Crawford, son of Walter Lindsay and unknown daughter Erskine, before 12 June 1535.2 She died circa 1549.4
Her married name became Blair.1 From before 1509, her married name became Fraser.1 From before 12 June 1535, her married name became Lindsay.1 After her marriage, Janet Gray was styled as Countess of Crawford on 27 November 1542. Her last will was dated 5 February 1549/50.2
