Harald Maddadson, Jarl of Orkney1 
He gained the title of Jarl of Orkney.1 In 1198 he killed his cousin Harald Ugni and so became sole Earl of Caithness.2 He succeeded as the 6th Earl of Caithness [S., 1030] in 1198, jointly.1 In 1201 he mutilated the Bishop of Caithness, for which King William attacked him.3 In 1201 he was defeatd when the southern part of his district (Sutherland) was taken away from him, and he had to pay 2000 marks of silver.4,3
