Dorothy Violet Ashton1,2 

Dorothy Violet Ashton was born on 30 July 1889 at Cookham, Berkshire, EnglandG.3 She was the daughter of Robert Ashton and Lucy Cecilia Dunn Gardner.1,3 She married Lt.-Col. Gerald Wellesley, 7th Duke of Wellington, son of Colonel Arthur Charles Wellesley, 4th Duke of Wellington and Kathleen Emily Bulkeley Williams, on 30 April 1914.4 She and Lt.-Col. Gerald Wellesley, 7th Duke of Wellington were separated in 1922.3 She died on 11 July 1956 at age 66 at Penns-n-the-Rocks, Withyham, Sussex, EnglandG.5,3
From 30 April 1914, her married name became Wellesley. She and Hon. Victoria Mary Sackville-West were associated in 1922.3 She wrote the book Sir George Goldie, Founder of Nigeria, published 1934.4 After her marriage, Dorothy Violet Ashton was styled as Duchess of Wellington on 16 September 1943.5 She wrote the book Far Have I Travelled, published 1952.4
