He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1498 in the Scots Men-at-Arms in France.2 He fought in the French Invasion of Lombardy in 1499.2 He was commander of the garrison of Milan in 1507.2 He fought in the Battle of Agnadel in 1508.2 He succeeded as the 5th Seigneur d’Aubigny, in Berry [France, 1423] in June 1508.1 He was Captain of the King of France’s Body Guard of Scottish Archers between 1512 and 1542.2 He fought in the Battle of Villafranca in 1515, where he defeated and captured Prospero.2 He fought in the Battle of Marignano in 1515.2 He held the office of a Marshal of France in 1515.1 He fought in the Battle of Oavia in 1525, where he was captured with King Francis I.2 He was created Comte de Beaumont-le-Roger [France] on 15 June 1527.1
