He was with the Commissionn to the Government of Mysore between 1834 and 1867.2 RHe did much to improve conditions, eform police and rebuild roads and was so venerated by local people that a village was named after him.2 He gained the rank of Major-General in the 9th Regiment, Madras Native Infantry.2
