Sir Robert Grierson of Lag, 1st Bt.1 
Sir Robert Grierson of Lag, 1st Bt. also went by the nick-name of ‘Auld Lag’.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Dumfries-shire [Scotland] between 1678 and 1686.4 He was created 1st Baronet Grierson, of Lag, co. Dumfries [Nova Scotia] on 25 March 1685, with special remainder to his heirs male whatsoever.1 In April 1685 he presided at the trial and execution for refusing to take the adjuration oath of two women known as ‘the Wigtown martyrs.4‘ In 1696 he was arrested for ‘false coining.2‘ He held the office of Steward of Kirkcudbright.4

Sir William Grierson of Lag, 2nd Bt.1 
He was a Commissioner of Supply in 1704.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Dumfries-shire [Scotland] from 1709 to February 1711.1 In 1715 he joined the Uprising, and was captured. He was pardoned in 1724.1 He was disinherited by his father, and did not inherit his estates.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Grierson, of Lag, co. Dumfries [N.S., 1685] on 15 April 1736.1
