     Emily Hester Melvill was the daughter of Philip Melvill.¹ She married Rev. Hon. Alan Brodrick, son of Reverend William John Brodrick, 7th Viscount Midleton of Midleton and Hon. Harriet Brodrick, on 18 June 1867.¹ She and Rev. Hon. Alan Brodrick were divorced in 1901.¹ She died on 2 August 1906.¹
     Her married name became Brodrick.

     Philip Melvill is the son of Sir James Cosmo Melvill.¹

     Sir James Cosmo Melvill was born in 1792 at Guernsey, Channel Islands.² He was the son of Captain Philip Melvill and Elizabeth Carey Dobree.³ He married Hester Jean Frances Sellon, daughter of William Marmaduke Sellon, in March 1815.³ He died on 23 July 1861 at Tandridge Court, Surrey, England.³
     He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.)¹ He was Chief Secretary of the East India Company between 1836 and 1858.³ He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) on 14 January 1841.³ He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) on 5 September 1853.³
