He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1777 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Launceston between 1780 and 1790.1 He held the office of Lord of the Admiralty between 1783 and 1801.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Arden, of Lohort Castle, co. Cork [I., 1770] on 11 June 1784.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) on 19 February 1786.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Warwick between 1790 and 1796.1 He held the office of Registrar of the Court of Admiralty between 1790 and 1840.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Totnes between 1796 and 1802.1 He held the office of Master of the Mint between 1801 and 1802.1 He held the office of Commissioner of the India Board between 1801 and 1803.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) on 20 February 1801.1 He was created 1st Baron Arden, of Arden, co. Warwick [U.K.] on 28 July 1802.1 He held the office of a Lord of the Bedchamber between 1804 and 1812.1 His last will was dated from 3 March 1826 to 27 April 1840. He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey between 1830 and 1840.1
