Sir John Norton-Griffiths, 1st Bt. 
He fought in the Matabele War between 1896 and 1897, where he was mentioned in despatches three times.1 He gained the rank of commander between 1896 and 1897 in the Scouts.1 He gained the rank of Squadron Leader Brabant’s between 1899 and 1901 in the 2nd Colonial Division, South African Field Force.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)1 He fought in the Boer War between 1900 and 1902.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Wednesbury between 1910 and 1918.1 He raised 2nd King Edward’s Horse.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches three times.1 In 1916 He was on a special mission to Romania for destruction of oil wells and corn stores.1 He was Engineer-in-Chief GHQ to organise, initiate and direct tunnelling companies in 1916.1 He gained the rank of Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel in 1916.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 2nd Regiment King Edward’s Horse.1 In 1917 his name was legally changed to John Norton-Griffiths by Deed Poll.1 He was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir of Russia 3rd Class.1 He was awarded the Grand Star of Romania.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.)1 He was awarded the Officier, Ordre national de la Légion d’honneur.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Wandsworth Central between 1918 and 1924.1 He was created 1st Baronet Norton-Griffiths, of Wonham, co. Surrey [U.K.] on 14 June 1922.1
