Major Alastair Joseph Edgar Gordon-Cranstoun of that Ilk 
He was given the name of Alastair Joseph Edgar Gordon at birth.1 He was educated at Ampleforth College, Ampleforth, Yorkshire, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Magdalen College School, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was commissioned in 1932, in the service of the Grenadier Guards.1 He fought in the Second World War, in France and the Middle East.1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1943.1 He was Military Attaché to Lisbon between 1945 and 1947.1 He gained the rank of Major in 1946.1 On 11 September 1950 his name was legally changed to Alastair Joseph Edgar Gordon-Cranstoun.1 He was recognised by Lord Lyon King of Arms, and matriculated his arms at the Lyons Court on 11 September 1950.1 He held the position of Chief of the Name and Arms of Cranstoun from on 11 September 1950.1 He was awarded the Knight, Sovereign Military Order of Malta in 1951.1 He was Deputy Commandant Vienna, Inter-Allied Command and Deputy Director of the Military Division between 1952 and 1955.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Lanarkshire in 1960.1
