     Anna Maria Thornhill was born on 1 July 1807 at Thornhill, Sunderland, County Durham, England.¹ She married William Frederick Anderson Gilfillan on 10 June 1821 at Grahamstown, Cape Province, South Africa.¹ She died on 13 February 1879 at age 71 at Cradock, Cape Province, South Africa.¹
     From 10 June 1821, her married name became Gilfillan.¹
